Sir Antonio Genesio Maria Panizzi

Sir Antonio Genesio Maria Panizzi (16 September 1797 – 8 April 1879), better known as Anthony Panizzi, was a naturalised British librarian of Italian birth and an Italian patriot. Modern cataloging as we know it today has its origins in the middle of the nineteenth century when Antonio Genesio Mario Panizzi (later called Sir Anthony Panizzi) compiled the famous 91 Rules to guide in the compilation of the printed catalogs of the British Museum as "Rules for the Compilation of the Catalogue" popularly known as Panizzi Code published in 1839.
